Business Spotlight: Campos Financial Group

Daniel R. Campos, MBA, ChFC, CRPC, President & Financial Advisor - Campos Financial Group
What services does Campos Financial Group offer?

Comprehensive wealth management designed to protect, grow, and preserve our clients’ assets. Our expertise includes retirement and income planning, investment management, tailored insurance solutions, risk advisory, and estate planning. We partner with individuals, small businesses, and nonprofits across the DMV region and in more than a dozen states to deliver personalized strategies and enduring financial confidence.

What makes Campos Financial stand out in the financial services field?

As an independent firm, we provide fair and objective counsel to clients without the undue pressure of sales goals or proprietary product restrictions, and can review a much broader range of investment options. As a fiduciary, we act only in our clients’ best interests. For most clients, we use a tiered, asset based, flat fee structure, not commissions, although of few of our long-time clients prefer the commission model so we honor that. We also offer our clients the opportunity to talk to us regularly without being billed by the hour.

Who is your ideal customer?

I work best with clients who are open, collaborative, and value guidance that enhances their financial decision-making. Many new clients come to me with generic, one-size-fits-all plans, and together we transform those into strategies that improve portfolio efficiency, uncover opportunities to save on insurance and taxes, and, for businesses, implement retirement plans tailored to their size and needs.

What motivated the founding of the business?

I spent years at very large and well-known wealth management companies. I realized that I love this industry, and enjoy helping people manage their assets, but I no longer wanted to do it in big entities that were not always client focused. I had never considered being independent, but as I researched it, I realized I could access all the same capabilities and do everything I had done before and have a completely client first focus. I launched my firm in 2019, and we just expanded our office space in Rockville.

Can you tell us about your community involvement?

I am a longstanding Board member of Child Justice, Inc., which provides pro bono legal services for non offending, protective parents in civil family law or protective order cases involving child custody and access. I am also on the Business Advisory Council for SEEC, which provides a range of community supports to help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities live lives of their choosing. I am also active in several Chambers, including serving on the board of the Rockville Chamber.

Why Rockville?

This is home: I was born at Shady Grove Hospital, I grew up here and have always been a part of the local community. Also, this location is quite central. We are a quarter mile from 1-270, my office is within 30 minutes of Frederick, DC, or Northern Virginia. This is key for my DMV clients who like to meet in person.

About Campos Financial Group

Campos Financial looks beyond mere investments and deeply analyzes clients’ entire financial lives to provide the clearest roadmap to growth and prosperity. Business Spotlight: Hammer & Stain Rockville

Michelle Izquierdo, Owner - Hammer & Stain Rockville

What services does Hammer & Stain Rockville offer?

Hammer and Stain is a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) workshop that provides an encouraging and collaborative space for individuals and groups to  create art.  There is a little something for everyone, no matter what your creative abilities are.  In addition to open studio time, we offer classes in a wide variety of media including painting, glassblowing, pressed wildflower art, chunky yarn crafting, wooden signs, candle making, jewelry making, even cooking.   Our instructors can guide you through the process, or you can guide yourself.  We offer creative and social events, kid events, including summer camps for kids ages 7-14.

What makes Hammer & Stain stand out in the DIY Workshop space?

Our employees.  Most of them have an arts background, and we encourage them to do their own thing.  If they have an idea for a class, we’ll run a tester and if it is popular we’ll add it to our schedule.  They started classes in resin, polymer clay, alcohol ink – even painting on sports balls.   Our vibe is not stuffy or formal.  We keep it funky and our people make you feel welcome so you walk out feeling lighter. Art should be fun, and that’s what we get across.

What motivated the founding of the business?

I was an art major and am an artist; I have taught at VisArts and done commissions including murals.  I was working full time in a corporate job and part-time as an instructor for the former Hammer & Stain owner when COVID hit.   I recognized an opportunity to take a chance and bought the business in January of 2022.

Why Rockville?

I grew up in the area: I went to Magruder High and the University of Maryland.  Rockville is the perfect mecca.  It offers easy access for our corporate clients – we get a lot of them – and there is so much diversity here.  You can find something for everyone in Rockville.

What was unexpected about your business?

I did not know that I would have to be a content creator when I started this.  Fortunately, some of my employees are theatre/ videography people, so they direct me a lot.  On the positive side, I discovered that I’d learned a lot in my corporate job that transferred over.

What are you excited about now?

We are starting to do more pop-ups now, where we go take our DIY art opportunities to the client.  We will soon post some photos of that on our website so that people know we can do that.  I would like to grow that “street art” team.  Also, some of our summer campers have now “aged out” and are coming on board as interns.  They may be my future workforce!

About Hammer and Stain Rockville

Do-It-Yourself (DIY) workshop offering art and craft workshops, creative social events, private events, kid’s parties and workshops, summer camps, and craft kits for make-at-home projects.

We now provide a lot of support for organizations that use artificial intelligence.  Our role is data perspective – what does it mean when you are conducting analysis of behavior and opinion and need to include safeguards to protect privacy and safety?  How are governance issues addressed?  How can we deploy algorithms that protect the integrity of the study being conducted?   We bring social research methods to AI and take the lead to create these protections.

What motivated the founding of the business?

In 2002, I had a career in international education and training. But in the aftermath of 9/11, people weren’t coming to the U.S. so my company downsized.  I had always loved analytics, so I started the company to focus on it.  We now have 35 employees.  I love it because every day is something different.

What are you excited about now?

We just received a contract for a national survey about how people see their communities.  We plan to include a few questions about what excites and scares people about AI.

We publish information about our studies on our website, always leading with content.  Our latest is the National Benchmark Survey on Professional and Occupational Associations, which reveals that AI is reshaping the way professionals connect, learn, and thrive within their associations. These findings and others help all kinds of professionals plan for the next wave of change.  Other recent research briefs and guides cover Hispanic Marketing & Communications; Wildfire Mitigation Policy; Developing Successful Customer Surveys; even an assessment of the 2025 Super Bowl commercials.

X-energy will partner with the U.S. Department of Defense, Defense Innovation Unit, and the U.S. Air Force to advance XENITH

ROCKVILLE, MD, August 14, 2025 – X-energy Reactor Company, LLC (“X-energy” or the “Company”), today announced an agreement with the U.S. Department of Defense (“DOD”) Defense Innovation Unit (“DIU”) and the U.S. Department of the Air Force to advance the development of its commercial microreactor in alignment with President Trump’s executive order to deploy advanced nuclear technologies at DOD installations to support U.S. national security.

The agreement supports continued design and development for the X-energy XENITH microreactor under the Advanced Nuclear Power for Installations (“ANPI”) program, an initiative led by DIU in partnership with the Department of the Air Force. The program is designed to accelerate the deployment of next-generation microreactor technologies to provide resilient, secure power at military installations, and enables governmental sponsors like the Department of the Air Force to engage with X-energy under a flexible contracting mechanism that allows for faster development and deployment of commercial nuclear systems.

“We’re seeing the full force of federal partnership mobilized to bring advanced nuclear to market, and the leadership of the Trump Administration has been phenomenal,” said X-energy CEO J. Clay Sell. “X-energy is proud to be a leader, and a partner with this administration to support America’s energy leadership.”

The agreement aligns with President Trump’s Executive Order on Deploying Advanced Nuclear Reactor Technologies for National Security, issued in May 2025, which directs the Department of Defense to deploy an advanced reactor at a military installation before the end of the decade. As part of this effort, X-energy was selected to demonstrate commercial microreactors that can deliver resilient and secure energy to power critical defense infrastructure and remote microgrids.

XENITH, X-energy’s product, is a high-temperature gas-cooled microreactor first developed for DOD’s Project Pele, a mobile microreactor initiative led by the Strategic Capabilities Office. The design was selected to continue into an enhanced engineering phase, focused on achieving preliminary design maturity and initiating pre-licensing engagement with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for both military and commercial applications.

In addition to XENITH, X-energy is advancing the deployment of its Xe-100 high-temperature gas-cooled reactor as a grid-scale energy solution for utilities, industrial customers, and hyperscalers. The Company is also constructing a first-in-the-nation advanced nuclear fuel fabrication facility to manufacture its proprietary TRISO-X fuel. Together, X-energy’s technology portfolio is designed to deliver scalable, secure, and reliable power to meet growing global energy demand.

About X Energy Reactor Company, LLC

Bell’s Reines Reports Robust Q2 Growth, Elevating Its Wellness-First Mission

Strong sales, a standout flavor launch, and strategic alliances position the women-owned manufacturer for accelerated growth in Q3 2025.

ROCKVILLE , MD, UNITED STATES, July 8, 2025 /EINPresswire.com/ — Bell’s Reines, a proud Specialty Food Association (SFA) Member and certified Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) known for its Non-GMO Project Verified, health-conscious soft mini cookies, today announced significant Q2 growth, driven by robust sales, expanded consumer engagement, and pivotal new partnerships. From April 1 through June 30, the Rockville-based manufacturer further solidified its reputation for “mindful indulgence,” blending authentic flavor with wellness-forward values and local collaboration.

“Our Q2 performance reflects a growing appetite for gourmet treats made with real, high-quality ingredients that support a balanced lifestyle,” said Teneisha Thompson, CEO of Bell’s Reines. “Whether through the sustained popularity of our classic flavors, the excitement around innovative launches, or the strategic alliances we forged, our guiding philosophy ‘Life is Sweet, Savor the Small Things’ continues to resonate with customers looking to weave moments of joy into their overall well-being. This strong foundation positions us for continued innovation and broader reach in the second half of 2025.”

Consistent Best-Sellers Anchor Momentum
Bell’s Reines entered Q2 on the strength of consumer favorites that continued strong demand. Late-March demand continued into April as Chocolate Chip with Sea Salt and Snickerdoodle Gourmet Single Cookie packs remained runaway hits. April sales crowned Oatmeal Raisin as the month’s comfort-first champion, while May saw the four-count packs of Chocolate Chip with Sea Salt and Snickerdoodle reclaim the top two slots. June brought a zesty burst of sunshine as the Lemon Gourmet Single Cookie rose to become a best-seller, offering a bright, cake-like delight perfect for a sunshine-filled, on-the-go treat. Across the quarter, gluten-free and vegan SKUs continued their upward trajectory, underscoring rising demand for inclusive, better-for-you snacking.

A Seasonal Showstopper: Peach Gelée
On May 1, Bell’s Reines debuted Peach Gelée Gourmet Single Cookie, a flavor conceived around real fruit notes and crafted in collaboration with fellow Maryland woman-owned enterprise Devine Wine Jelly. This unique partnership resulted in a delicate thumbprint cookie featuring a luscious peach chardonnay gelée within its center, where the wine notes are subtle and harmonious, never overpowering. The collaboration was first sparked when both companies exhibited at the 2024 Summer Fancy Food Show hosted by SFA, and bonded through their shared memberships in SFA and SUSTA (Southern United States Trade Association). The result brought a fresh, seasonal profile to the lineup. Early feedback affirmed Peach Gelée as a welcome addition for consumers seeking authentic, clean-label variety.

Corporate Partnership Spotlight: Washington Commanders
June delivered a landmark opportunity when Bell’s Reines was directly invited to serve as a first-time vendor at the Washington Commanders corporate office Juneteenth celebration. This exclusive event provided Washington Commanders corporate members with an intimate introduction to the brand’s wellness-centric treats and founder story, signaling Bell’s Reines’ arrival as a credible partner for large-scale corporate engagements.

Community Footprint Expands Across Montgomery County
Staying true to its Maryland roots, Bell’s Reines amplified community presence with a debut at Taste of Wheaton, Montgomery County’s signature culinary festival, and at the 2nd Annual Black Business Expo of the Montgomery County Black Collective. Both June appearances strengthened local ties, broadened brand awareness, and reiterated the company’s commitment to empowering regional entrepreneurship.

Scaling for Impact: Agreement With Cureate
To sustain growth and advance its foundational 2025 strategy, centered around three key pillars—Community, Customers, and Capital—Bell’s Reines signed a strategic agreement with business-growth platform Cureate. This partnership will accelerate operational scaling, deepen brand storytelling, and unlock new channels for revenue and investment, all while safeguarding the quality and ingredient integrity that define Bell’s Reines.

Looking Ahead to Q3/Q4 2025
Building on Q2’s accomplishments, Bell’s Reines will concentrate on widening distribution and cultivating further corporate and community partnerships. The company will also delight fans with the return of beloved seasonal flavors, including S’Mores (August-October 2025). Each convenient pack features Bell’s Reines hand-crafted graham crackers paired with Bell’s Reines own fluffy marshmallows and quality West African and South American vegan chocolate, providing a sumptuous and fulfilling option no matter where your journeys lead you. Additionally, fans can look forward to Mint Mocha (November 2025-January 2026). With a robust roadmap and an unwavering commitment to wellness-driven indulgence, Bell’s Reines is poised to bring its authentic gourmet experience to even more households worldwide.

For business owner Bright Djampa, it was his freshman year of college that sparked his lightbulb moment. He realized there was a massive gap in the market place for food that takes care of one’s brain health. Omega 3 Nutrition was born, offering a growing line of clean-label, brain-boosting food products designed to support cognitive health and overall wellness. The flagship offerings include granola bars and cereal made with whole grains, plant-based ingredients, and enriched with naturally sourced omega-3 fatty acids. The company is a recent recipient of the Maryland Momentum Fund, an initiative of the University System of Maryland to provide late seed investment funding for promising technology ventures. “Launching Omega 3 Nutrition while I was a student at the University of Maryland was one of the most transformative experiences of my life,” said Bright Djampa, who is Founder and CEO of Omega 3 Nutrition. “The support I received from faculty and the Pitch Dingman competition played a huge role in bringing the vision to life. Winning $20,000 through Pitch Dingman gave me the runway to take this venture full-time after graduation — to hire my first team members, refine the product, and start building out a real business. University of Maryland didn’t just give me an education — it gave me the platform to pursue something meaningful and scalable from day one.”

A warm and inviting atmosphere, not to mention delicious aromas, welcomes customers to Fresh Baguette. Customers flock to the location for scratch-made artisanal croissants, pastries, baguette sandwiches, cakes, tarts and much more – all crafted with love by skilled pastry chefs. An obsession for quality is a signature of Fresh Baguette.  Take, for example, the process of making its signature baguettes: a cold-dough process that produces unique flavors, homemade “levain” (leaven), and made using state-of-the-art equipment imported from France. The end result is a baguette that is authentic with moisture and just the right crunch. It takes a full two days, 11 steps, carefully selected ingredients, and the skill of a pastry chef to make our soft and flaky, mouthwateringly tender croissant.

We continue this tour through some of Rockville’s small scale manufacturers with scrumptious cookies from the Bean Bag Bakery. Unique combinations include espresso double chocolate, apple crumb or cranberry white chocolate blondie, all side by side with favorites like their chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies – available in-store, online and for delivery. In addition to expanding their cookie line to include brownies, blondies and bars, they now have a wholesale division which sells to local shops including Attman’s Deli, Bethesda Bagels and Carmen’s Italian Ice, to name a few. From the website, they ship to all 50 states, including Hawaii. The original Bean Bag Deli & Catering company opened for business in 1977 and counts itself as the first coffee shop in Montgomery County. After 32 years in Bethesda, they moved to Rockville which has enabled their expansion plans. With delicious deli, to go breakfast and lunch options, gift baskets and catering, the Bean Bag Deli and Catering Co., is still family owned and operated and a favorite stop for foodies.

For the crafty and creative, Rockville’s Hammer & Stain is a DIY studio and workshop specializing in home décor projects. Let the creative juices run wild with a variety of both in-studio and take-home options for individuals and groups. Arts are alive in Rockville, and Hammer & Stain is the perfect destination. It’s a great option for a group gathering – a little wine and a little paint make a creative and fun combination. A recent customer noted, “What a wonderful time we had at Hammer & Stain! More than a DIY shop, they make it fun and exciting and at the end of the evening, you get to take home a beautiful project!”  Find specialized event opportunities including private parties, kids’ events and a summer camp. If you prefer to Hammer@Home, Hammer & Stain has you covered with a variety of fun projects to go for adults and kids.

If an icy cold, delicious dessert is what you crave, there is no better stop than Carmen’s Italian Ice, Maryland’s dessert emporium. Over the years, the Rockville store has become a go-to destination with an established and strong loyal customer base. The gelati, a layered delight of custard, Italian ice and topped with another luscious layer of custard. The Italian ice, made fresh daily, frozen custard milk shakes and more all add up to simply the best ice cream stop in the area. Carmen’s specialty creations include the Jersey Shore Mocha, the Island Refresher and Carmen’s Cherry Coke. Their treats are available at other local stores as they have expanded. A popular catering option is to have Carmen’s carts and trucks loaded with treats to get any party going. And, another unique feature of this local favorite, Carmen’s has a ‘Name of the Day’ promotion – if your name happens to be the one chosen, a free gelati is in your future.

Maryland Momentum Fund Invests in Omega 3 Nutrition to Fuel Nationwide Growth

The health food company is seeking to expand its national network of customers, serving some of the nation’s largest school districts.

Baltimore, Md. (May 21, 2025) – Omega 3 Nutrition, Inc., a Rockville-based health food company, announced today the close of an oversubscribed Series Seed round, led by Capitalize VC, an early-stage venture capital firm that invests in transformative commerce-enablement companies in Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), with participation from the University System of Maryland (USM) Momentum Fund (Momentum Fund), 1863 Ventures, the Dingman Center Angels Network, 757 Angels, and several prominent angel investors. The round will support rapid national expansion of the company’s various lines of brain health snacks and cereals.

Omega 3 Nutrition offers a growing line of clean-label, brain-boosting food products designed to support cognitive health and overall wellness. The company’s flagship offerings include granola bars and cereal made with whole grains, plant-based ingredients, and enriched with naturally sourced omega-3 fatty acids. The products, which combine great taste with functional health benefits, are specifically formulated to meet the nutritional needs of students, patients, and busy professionals, while also aligning with institutional standards for K-12 schools, universities, hospitals, and airlines.

“Capitalize VC is extremely proud to partner with Omega 3 Nutrition in this round. It’s been inspiring to watch Bright and his team build such a solid foundation for the business over the past year,” commented Tessa Flippin, Founder and Managing Partner at Capitalize VC. “We were excited to become investors in the company after understanding two key things — the capital efficient and profitable nature of the business at such an early stage, and the strong B2B business model that enables them to build sticky customer relationships that keep the Customer Lifetime Value (LTV) to Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) ratio high. We also see their in-house manufacturing as a differentiator that enables Omega 3 to control much of their production costs as they continue to grow their footprint.”

Bright Djampa founded Omega 3 Nutrition while he was a nutritional food science student at the University of Maryland, College Park. To realize his vision, he collaborated with several nutrition science professors, ultimately developing a product line of affordable, accessible, and truly delicious food items designed to naturally support brain health. Since the original product was created in 2019, the offerings have gone through several iterations to better align with the K-12 market and to deliver more brain boosting nutrients.

“Launching Omega 3 Nutrition while I was a student at the University of Maryland was one of the most transformative experiences of my life,” said Bright Djampa, Founder and CEO of Omega 3 Nutrition.

“I have known few founders as dedicated, positive, and resourceful as Bright,” said Lottie Byram, Assistant Director of Community Programs at the Dingman-Lamone Center for Entrepreneurship. “We first met when Omega 3 Nutrition consisted of little more than Bright’s first $150 in sales and dreams. Since that time, he has pursued success with relentless creativity. His way is infectious, and everyone who has met him can attest to being a little (or a lot) more fired up about solving the world’s problems. It has been a pleasure to work with him on this journey, and we’re very proud to see the founder he has become, as well as the impact he is having on our region and the next generation of young founders.”

“We’re excited to partner with Bright and his team as they take their vision for healthy snacks and cereals to the next level,” said Mike Ravenscroft, Managing Director of the Momentum Fund. “Since winning the Pitch Dingman competition in 2021, Bright has worked tirelessly to turn a dorm room dream into a thriving venture. With customers including school districts, hospitals, and even airlines nationwide, they are leading the charge to bring healthy snacks to the places where we need them the most.”

Lab will help enable broader adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies and state-of-the-art quality solutions

Rockville, MD – June 4, 2025 – The U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) announced today the opening of its Advanced Technologies Laboratory in Rockville, Maryland. USP will use this lab, and related solutions and expertise, to develop, pilot, and scale innovations that foster more efficient and expanded production of quality medicines for stronger and more secure supply chains.

The lab expands USP capabilities to help manufacturers overcome barriers in the adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies by developing new approaches and processes for flow chemistry and additive manufacturing coupled with advanced analytical techniques such as process analytical technologies (PAT) that can enable real-time quality monitoring. The lab will also support development of alternative and novel synthetic routes to produce active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and key starting materials. Taken together, these capabilities are essential in efforts to create stronger supply chains through strategic onshoring, distributed manufacturing, and personalized medicine.

“Advanced manufacturing technologies make possible the responsive, distributed manufacturing and onshoring strategies that make our medicine supply chains more secure and reliable. But adoption at commercial scale can be challenging, especially for generic manufacturers,” said Ronald T. Piervincenzi, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of USP. “The Advanced Technologies Lab will help launch and scale innovations that get products to patients more efficiently, while strengthening our medicine supply chains.”

USP offers end-to-end supply chain analytics and solutions– from chemical precursors to finished pharmaceutical products. Accurate, comprehensive mapping of the medicines supply chain helps identify supply chain risks, such as over consolidation, and pinpoints opportunities for intervention. The Advanced Technologies Lab will help industry and regulators accelerate the adoption of new technologies that help to mitigate supply chain risks and, where appropriate, establish guidance that supports regulatory predictability, process efficiencies, and faster time to market, all of which can strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities.

“The Advanced Technologies Lab exemplifies USP’s commitment to advancing efficient, quality, and sustainable pharmaceutical manufacturing through the application of cutting-edge technologies,” said Emily Kaine, SVP of Global Health and Manufacturing Services. “USP’s unique capabilities and decades of expertise can help overcome the barriers that have limited the adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies. Doing so will help ensure that the medicines people rely on for health are available when and where they’re needed.”

USP currently operates more than 70,000 square feet of laboratory space across sites in the U.S. and India. USP labs provide unparalleled expertise in developing quality and process standards, establishing and validating analytical methods, characterizing impurities, and synthesizing organic compounds. The Advanced Technologies Lab is the latest of USP’s investments in advanced manufacturing technologies. USP plans to continue expanding its advanced technology footprint into an additional 8,000 square foot laboratory in 2026.
