In January 2026, the two countries signed an Agreement on Reciprocal Trade that includes $250 billion in direct Taiwanese semiconductor and technology investments in the United States, along with $250 billion in government-backed credit guarantees. The agreement specifically calls for establishing industrial clusters in the U.S. to strengthen domestic semiconductor supply chains. Montgomery County is home to a well-established cluster of satellite and advanced communications companies, with Rockville attracting major investments in the sector. In 2023, South Korea-based Intellian Technologies opened its Advanced Development Center in Rockville with a $100 million commitment to develop satellite communication technologies, creating over 70 research and development jobs.
