State of the City Address – The City That Energizes
Last Thursday, Rockville Mayor Bridget Donnell Newton presented the State of the City Address: “Rockville: The City That Energizes.” at F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre in Rockville. In her address she spoke to where the city is headed – discussing points related to the City’s positive finances, housing, economic development, and business climate. She also touched on some additional issues which are currently being discussed at Mayor and Council such as the APFO/APFS and Rockville Pike Plan.
The Mayor stated, “Thanks to the Rockville Chamber and REDI – we have a robust business community” and “an energized business community”. Also mentioned in the presentation was the MWBC, a REDI initiative, “Rockville is home to the federally recognized Maryland Women’s Business Center – recently awarded a half-million dollar contract from the Small business Administration.” She spoke about Rockville being a great “Life Sciences location with a growing industry in cyber-security, IT and general technology.” She mentioned the Cambria Suites opening this Spring in Rockville Town center and the 4.4% unemployment rate – the lowest in Maryland.
