Rockville’s Ninth Annual Business Appreciation Week Set For March 10-14, 2014.

Mayor, City Council, and Other Leaders to Visit 50+ Local Businesses

Rockville, Md., February 24, 2014 – The Rockville Mayor and City Council, in coordination with Rockville Economic Development, Inc. (REDI), will again celebrate local businesses the week of March 10-14 during Rockville Business Appreciation Week.

This annual event gives the City of Rockville the opportunity to recognize and thank local businesses for making Rockville their home.  Teams comprised of members of the Mayor and City Council, City of Rockville senior staff, REDI Board and staff, and the Rockville Chamber of Commerce Board will visit approximately 50 businesses during the week of March 10- 14.  These 45 minute site visits with the company allow the visiting team to learn more about the company and its needs so that REDI and the City can support their business needs more effectively.  Information gathered during the visits help to give REDI an indication of the economic climate of the City.

Last year, 54 Rockville companies were visited during Rockville’s Business Appreciation Week.  Survey results from a year ago showed 64 percent of businesses reported hiring at least one employee in the previous year, 77 percent reported an increase in revenue, and 59 percent reported an increase in profits.  Eighty-nine percent of companies surveyed last year reported that their headcount, revenue and profits grew simultaneously in the previous year.

There are over 8,600 businesses, ranging from small family-owned establishments to major corporations, located in Rockville. These businesses employ over 74,000 people. The greater Rockville business area includes over 25 million square feet of commercial office space, which is more than 33% of the total office space in Montgomery County. The Rockville business sector contributes $13.6 million, or about 42%, of the property taxes collected in Rockville.

Rockville businesses interested in a visit from Rockville community representatives should call REDI at 301-315-8096 or email REDI at Fearheiley@RockvilleREDI.org.  Also, stay tuned for the results of this year’s Business Appreciation Week, which will be revealed at the Business Appreciation Week Wrap-Up Breakfast, held on March 21, 2014.
