REDI Announces Retail Façade Improvement Grant Program

Rockville Economic Development, Inc. (REDI) is pleased to announce its newest business incentive for the City of Rockville—the Retail Façade Improvement Grant Program. The grant program offers financial assistance to local property owners, landlords, and tenants who desire to make exterior façade/street front improvements to retail buildings.

Funded by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) through its Community Legacy Program, façade grant recipients will be eligible for a reimbursement of up to 50% of their project costs, capped at no more than $5,000 per property. Grant funds may be used to pay for cosmetic improvements such as lighting, paint, awnings, doors, windows, signs, ADA access ramps, landscaping, and other exterior projects. Online applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the application cycle ends on May 31, 2019.

“The Retail Façade Improvement Grant Program provides financial assistance to renovate, update, and/or rebrand local retail properties,” said Paul Newman, REDI Board Chair. “It is an excellent opportunity for older retail locations with tight budgets to invest in the ‘look’ of their properties, making them more attractive and inviting to customers. REDI is grateful to the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development for this funding, which showcases the City of Rockville’s commercial strengths.”

To qualify for the Retail Façade Improvement Grant Program, applicants must be a current owner, landlord, or tenant of a retail property located within the City of Rockville’s Sustainable Communities areas. Applicants must also submit the required documentation verifying the property location, current Rockville business license, photos of the existing building conditions, proposed improvements, costs, and insurance verifications. Once all documentation is received, REDI will review the application and determine eligibility. Eligible applications will then be forwarded to DHCD for review and funding determination.
