The award was created in 2014 to highlight Rockville-based companies that are making a difference in the local economy and community as a whole through their success, community engagement, and innovative practices. The award is presented annually at the REDI Resource Meetup (R2M) Event held during Maryland’s Economic Development Week in the fall.

2016 – Apex Home Loans
An independent and community-drive mortgage lender, Apex Home Loans employs over 100 professionals in its Rockville headquarters. Since 2013 the number of employees has grown by 70%, which has been mirrored by strong revenue growth. The company has been recognized for its employee programs, as it earned recognition in January as one of the top ten mortgage employers in the Mid-Atlantic. Apex even has its own community outreach program that has provided over 2,000 snack packs for in-need children over the past year.
2016 – Thrive Yoga (Special Retailer Award)
Offering more than 55 wellness classes, workshops, and retreats, Thrive Yoga has been a staple in the local yoga community for over 13 years. This year has been an outstanding one, as revenue has grown over 30% from 2015 and they redesigned their space to accommodate more clients. The business is heavily involved in the community including clean up projects, discounted/free classes, and various holiday drives.
2015 – NIKA Architects + Engineers
With revenue growth exceeding 375% in the past three years, NIKA is revolutionizing how governments design, build, and manage real property. Since 2013 the company has also more than doubled its workforce to reach 140 worldwide, with 60 employees in the Rockville office. NIKA has become increasingly active in the community by supporting organizations such as Toys for Tots. Their employees are given top of the line benefits along with fun perks including raffles for tickets to sporting events.
2015 – Community Ministries of Rockville (Special Nonprofit Award)
With a team of 65 full- and part-time employees, CMR is making a meaningful difference in the community by operating five programs (healthcare, financial assistance, elderly home care, citizenship assistance, and homeless shelter) for the most vulnerable populations. In the coming year, the organization hopes to add dental services to their impressive list of offerings. Beyond its core programs, CMR also has been a key organizer of the Taste of Rockville and several other local events.
2014 – The EMMES Corporation
With more than 400 employees, EMMES is a professional partner to clinicians, scientists, and program leaders around the world by providing scientific and technical support for clinical research studies. Headquartered in Rockville, EMMES encouraged participation in the nomination process from their employees and the feedback unveiled common themes about the company’s impact on public health, their healthy and positive work environment, and their community outreach programs including school supply drives.
