Business Appreciation Week – We’re Glad You’re Here!
Business Appreciation Week is an opportunity for REDI to get a snapshot of how things are going in the local business environment, gathering information from companies of all sizes and across all industry sectors. And it’s a chance for us to give thanks to our existing companies for the contributions they make to the health of our local economy and for providing employment opportunities for Rockville residents.
The first week of April 2017, REDI staff, along with our Board of Directors, Mayor & Council, City staff, and Rockville Chamber Board members will break into teams of Ambassadors and spend the week visiting over 50 local Rockville companies as a way to say thanks for being here, and recognizing the important contributions that local businesses make to the vitality of the City of Rockville.
It’s important to celebrate our existing businesses. They can be easily overlooked as new firms come to town, but it’s the existing business base that drives the job growth in a jurisdiction. If each business in Rockville added just one job this year, that would add over 8,000 new jobs to our economy!
In 2016, we visited 51 companies that represented over 565,000 square feet of commercial space in the City. Together, they employ over 2,100 people and 79% said they planned to add staff during 2017. The businesses represented companies that had just started to firms that have been in business for over 100 years.
We look forward to meeting with another group of businesses during this year’s Business Appreciation Week and hearing, in real time, how things are going. From research & development to restaurants, from insurance providers to printing specialists, we look forward to celebrating the diversity of Rockville’s business community!
